Week13A

Have you ever had a conversation about a product or service or even just thought about it, and then suddenly it appears on your Facebook or Instagram? Well, that happens to me all the time. It's almost freaky to think how they know what your thinking or saying.
We see advertisements almost everywhere we look; from on TV, Billboards, radio stations, social media and the list could go on. A lot of these ads also include imagery to connect more to human interest. For example, on my Facebook page, I have a sponsored ad for Etsy and in this ad, they share all the great mothers day gifts you could buy from them. I think having pictures of products or services really makes things more clear whereas reading words tends to make us drift. If you click on that ad, it takes you to their Mother's Day collection on Etsy. Another ad that I found to pop up a lot on my social media is Casetify; phone cases/accessory online store. With this ad, they mention with any purchase you will receive 10 free sanitizing wipes. This companies ads are definitely the most annoying because ever since I looked them up on Instagram, ads pop up left and right telling me why I need to buy an iPhone case from them. Their link takes you straight to their website where you can find all of their products.
The impact of social media advertising has skyrocketed over traditional advertising. Now that social media has consumed society, we tend to rely on those platforms for any information. However, this really depends on each generation. For instance, my dad is part of the Baby Boomers and he seems to find newspapers, magazines, and TV ads the most effective. Compare this to a Millennial. When can you say you have ever taken advantage of an advertisement you saw in a newspaper or billboard? Not likely right? This is because social media is most effective for Millennials since we grew up with it controlling us.
